	Business Review - Year ended 3 September 2011

	At the year end, Debenhams Retail Plc traded from 138 department stores and 14 Desire concept stores in the UK, 64 international franchise stores and the internet. An additional three department stores have been opened during the year. The results for the year show a profit on ordinary activities before tax of £214.0m (2010 £229.7m) and turnover of £2,027.9m (2010 £1,956.2m). As at 3 September 2011, the company had net assets of £757.4m (2010 £689.0m). The external commercial environment for Debenhams Retail Plc is expected to remain competitive in 2012 due to the current economic climate.
