	Debenhams increases footwear offer

	According to news in Drapers, Debenhams is aiming to take a greater slice of the £2.6bn UK footwear market and will devote more space to the category throughout this year. Accessories divisional trading director Susie Calvert said the retailer was eyeing double-digit growth in square footage. The department store chain believes footwear offers good growth potential in tough times as customers seek thrifty ways to revamp old outfits. Debenhams is planning to launch new footwear ranges in-store this year, starting with Aldo-owned footwear brand Call It Spring in mid-March. The brand, which will be sold exclusively in Debenhams, will be available in 20 stores and online. Calvert said the product is "fun with a fashion edge" and accessible to its target audience.
