Guess has agreed deals with both Italian distributor and licensee the Percassi group and Portuguese distributor the Brodheim group. By the end of the spring 12 season the denim brand will acquire 26 stores currently operated by the Percassi group under license agreement, thus reinforcing its presence in Italy with 158 property and licensee-run stores.
Guess will also extend its store nework in Italy in a joint venture with Brodheim, with the opening of 20 new stores in addition to the five stores already present in the country.
Paul Marciano chief executive officer and creative director, said: "The acquisition of the stores from Percassi in Italy and the signing of the joint venture with Brodheim in Portugal will give our brand more control of our distribution in two important European markets, which despite the tough economic climate, offer opportunities for growth and success".
The brand has also had new appointments with Chet Kuchinad joining Guess as chief people officer and Amber Tarshis as senior vice president, marketing.
Kuchinad, who will report into chief executive officer Paul Marciano, will lead all aspects of the company’s ‘people strategy’ with particular focus on talent, engagement, employment branding, strategic rewards, along with organizational and leadership development. He has previously held senior executive roles at Nike and Starbucks.
