Anchor retailer named at Flemingate

Debenhams has been named as the anchor retailer on a £120m regeneration project.
The company has signed an agreement to lease a 40,000 sq ft unit on the Flemingate scheme in Beverley, East Yorkshire.
The redevelopment of Flemingate is set to create between 700 and 800 new jobs and is predicted to generate an estimated £32m of additional income each year to the regional economy.
Having gained outline consent for the project in 2009, the consortium behind the scheme, which includes Hull-based Wykeland Group and Quintain Estates and Development, is set to submit a detailed planning application for the entire site.
Rob Hadfield, head of property for Debenhams, said: "We’re delighted to announce that we are going to be part of the Flemingate regeneration project with a department store which houses an extensive exclusive offer."
The new Flemingate will consist of a further 15 retail units, an 80-bed Premier Inn, a five-screen cinema complex, restaurants, a 486-space multi-storey car park and 20,000 sq ft of office accommodation.
The site has previously been occupied in different eras by a tannery, a chemicals company and the Museum of Army Transport.
