	Business Review - Year ended 1 September 2012

	At the year end, Debenhams Retail Plc as a multichannel retailer traded from 154 stores in the UK (the 14 Desire stores have been rebranded as Debenhams stores during the year) and 68 international franchise stores. Debenhams Retail Plc also trades through its internet sites in the UK and overseas. An additional two department stores and seven new franchise stores have been opened during the year. The online business continued to grow at a rate which exceeded the market in 2012. The results for the year show that the company achieved a turnover of £2,020.2m (2011 - £2,027.9m) leading to a profit before taxation of £191.8m (2011 - £214.0m). At the year end the company had net assets of £708.4m (2011 - £757.4m). The external commercial environment for Debenhams Retail Plc is expected to remain competitive in the foreseeable future.
