The report found that the growth of casual dining is supporting demand for commercial floorspace, especially in regional markets with more available space.
Consumer demand for chains such as Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Strada and Carluccio’s remains strong and is set to continue to expand, according to Aviva, reducing vacancy rates and pushing up rents in the UK’s high streets and shopping centres.
Growing leisure usage can help retail locations to maintain their purpose in the face of growth in online shopping by creating more attractive shopping destinations, said the report.
However, it warned that in the future, the poor financial outlook for the current younger generation may act as a brake on the sector’s expansion. |
